Grading & Policies

Grading

Student progress reports and grading are completed on a daily basis. All grades can be reviewed with the student each marking period. Students must pass written exams, practical exams and daily practical work with a passing grade to receive a Certificate of Completion from the school.

The school uses a numerical system for grading. The minimum passing grade for the program is a numerical grade of 75. If a student possesses a failing grade at any time during the program, they will be placed on probation for a period of thirty days. Upon completion of the probationary period, the student will be given both a written and practical exam. If the student has a passing grade at this point, they are able to complete the course. If the student's grade is failing, the student will be dismissed. Dismissal for the above reasons will not release a student from tuition responsibility, pursuant to the refund clause.

The following is an outline of the grading system for The Rochester Institute of Dog Grooming, Inc.:

  • A = 95 – 100
  • B = 85 – 94
  • C = 75 – 84
  • D = 65 – 74
  • F = 64

School Policies

Dress Code

Dress is casual, but students must be clean and presentable in appearance at all times. Thongs, bare feet, halter-tops and short shorts will not be permitted. Students are required to wear rubber soled shoes at all times. Due to safety concerns, no hanging or hoop earrings, and no facial jewelry may be worn while in school.

Job Placement

For students who complete the course, placement service may be provided. The school is in constant contact with veterinarians, kennels and grooming shops, and all students have access to a job opportunities bulletin board. Although the demand for qualified groomers is high, the school in no way promises or guarantees employment.

Certificate of Completion

Students successfully completing the course will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Certificates of Completion will not be issued unless the student has met all requirements including the satisfying of all monetary obligations. In the event of any payment becoming delinquent for more than seven (7) days without special consent of the President of The Rochester Institute of Dog Grooming, Inc., the unpaid balance becomes immediately due and payable. If it becomes necessary to institute collection of the balance due, the student agrees to pay the reasonable attorney's fees, court costs and collection fees incurred in the collection of the tuition. The cost of the equipment furnished to the student upon entering the course is included in the total cost of instruction. Any cost for repair and maintenance to student equipment during the course is the responsibility of the student.

Attendance & Conduct

The school requires prompt attendance by each student on the days required in the course description. No absences will be allowed during the course without approval from the Director. Unapproved absences will be charged at the rate of $11.00 per hour for makeup. The makeup charges will be due prior to returning to class. Excessive tardiness will be penalized, and three (3) will constitute an absence. Any student who is absent more than 15 percent of the total number of instructional hours offered during the first half of the student's program, not including leaves of absence, and who has not maintained satisfactory progress shall be dismissed. At this point a student will be required to pay for makeup as defined in the enrollment agreement, and will be evaluated through a practical application exam. Dismissal for the above will not release a student from tuition responsibility, pursuant to the refund clause.

In a case of a prolonged illness or accident, death in the family, or other special circumstances that make attendance impossible or impractical, a leave of absence may be granted to the student if requested in writing by the student or his/her designee. The approval of any leave of absence will be in writing by the school Director. No monetary charges or accumulated absences may be assessed to the student during a leave of absence. When a student returns from an approved leave of absence, the student shall be placed in the instructional program at the point commensurate with the skill level retained by the student at the time of their return. Any student violating the student rules or disruptive to the class will be placed on probation for 30 days. If any further violations are made during this period, the student will be dismissed. Dismissal for these reasons will not release a student from tuition responsibility, pursuant to the refund clause.
